Czech road project now underway

Construction work is underway on stretch of the D11 highway connecting Hradec Kralove and Smirice in the northern Czech Republic. The work is being carried out by a construction consortium comprising contractors Eurovia, Metrostav and Swietelsky. Construction work is underway on stretch of the D11 highway connecting Hradec Kralove and Smirice in the northern Czech Republic. The work is being carried out by a construction consortium comprising contractors Eurovia, Metrostav and Swietelsky. However, the start of the work for the 15.5km highway section was delayed and its completion is timed for 2022. The project is costing €100.5 million and includes a number of engineering challenges due to the complexity of the terrain. In all the work will include building 18 bridges and two raised intersections. In addition, a number of noise protection barriers will also be installed to reduce disturbance to residential areas.

The tunnel will now open for traffic in April 2015 instead of October 2014, which was the most recent opening date for the link.     The route for new tunnel links for Slovakia’s D1 highway has been agreed. New tunnels now look set to be built on the 13.5km stretch between Turany and Hubova section of the D1 highway.     Construction of the Preljina-Pozega section of Serbia’s Corridor 11 route is commencing in March 2019. The project is challenging due to the terrain and this section of the route will include 32 bridges, 11 overpasses, three tunnels and three interchanges.
