Czech construction road tender attracts strong interest

A highway construction project in the Czech Republic is attracting strong interest, with 10 bids having been received during the tender process. The project is being managed by the state-owned road management firm RSD and is worth €255.21 million. The work involves building a 10 km stretch of the D1 connecting Prerov with Rikovice and this will be the largest road tender in the Czech Republic during 2017. According to RSD, the bids have largely come from consortia that combine large foreign contractors with local construction firms. The foreign construction companies include businesses based in Italy, Kazakhstan, Poland, Spain and Turkey.

    Great interest has been shown in tenders advertised by GDDKiA to build three sections of the S3 dual carriageway in Poland. A total of 18 bids were received from firms and consortia for the first section, which measures 14.4km and extends from the Kazmierzow junction to Lubin North. The other two sections, from the Lubin North junction to the Lubin South junction (11.3km) and from Lubin South to the Legnica II junction (22.6km), both attracted similar bidders to the first tender.

    Upgrade work to five sections of the D1 highway in the Czech Republic is due to commence in spring 2012. The first sections to be rebuilt are from are Sternov-Psare, Loket-Horice, Vetrny Jenikov-Jihlava, Lhotka-Velka Bites and Velka Bites-Devet Krizu. The Transport Ministry prioritised these sections for repair, although full permission has yet to be given before the work can commence.
