Colombia’s new tunnel providing engineering challenge

The Toyo tunnel being planned in Colombia will provide several engineering challenges according to reports. Located in Antioquia, the tunnel lies in an area with tricky topography. The project is expected to cost some US$783 million to build with the tunnel being located at an altitude of around 1,500m.

    Work on the La Molina-Miraflores tunnel project looks set to recommence in the second quarter of 2017. The US$500 million project is being managed by Spanish contractor OHL and is one of three major road projects being carried out by the firm in the country, which are worth a total of some $1.5 billion.     The excavation work for the new La Quiebra road tunnel link in Colombia is close to completion. The drive is being carried out from both ends of the tunnel and should meet by November 2019.
