Plans are being drawn up in Colombia for a number of new tertiary roads in Valle del Cauca Department. A new highway will be built in Valle del Cauca department, while a new road will improve connections between Mulalo and Loboguerrero.
A finance package has been secured in Colombia for the Autopista al Mar 1 highway project. A loan worth close to US$206 million is being provided by the national development bank, Financiera de Desarrollo Nacional (FDN). The highway forms part of Colombia’s 4G infrastructure development plan and the finance package will be provided in three separate tranches. Construction is commencing on a key contract for Colombian road firm Nueva Via al Mar (Covimar). The firm will handle the 32km Mulalo-Loboguerrero fourth generation (4G) road project. The new route will improve transport of heavy goods between Buenaventura and Cali. Covimar has the concession for the link until 2040. The project is costing US$527.6 million but faces a number of environmental challenges as it passes through a protected area as well as over a number of waterways.
