Colombia tunnel building work

Excavation work will be complete on a new tunnel stretch in Colombia in Q3 2020.

Driving work will be complete for the second Occident Tunnel section in Colombia during October 2020.

The link forms part of the highway route connecting the city of Medellin with Santa Fe and Uraba. In all, the tunnel will measure 4.6km when it has been bored, with more than 3.6km having already been driven.

The new Autopista al Mar 1 road, including the Occident Tunnel, should be complete by 2022. The project is being managed by Colombia's national infrastructure agency (ANI) and forms part of the country’s road development programme.

    The concession package for Colombia’s Toyo Tunnel project will be awarded in the third quarter of 2015. This has been announced by the authorities in Antioquia.   • Construction contract commencing on Colombia’s Toyo Tunnel

    Work is now starting on Colombia’s Toyo Tunnel (Tunel del Toyo) project. The 9.8km long tunnel is being built by a subsidiary of the Spanish FCC Group, FCC Construccion. The concession contract for the tunnel is for a 10 year period that includes design, construction, operation and maintenance. The project is expected to cost US$483 million and once complete, the new link will improve transport connections between Medellin and Uraba.     Interest is strong in the project to complete Colombia’s key tunnel construction contract. In all 23 firms have shown interest in the package of works to complete the La Linea tunnel project, according to the Colombian national road institute (Invias).
