Colombia is setting out plans for key road projects

The Colombian Government has approved the country's eighth public-private partnership (PPP) to transform the Bogota-Girardot route into a six-lane highway. The project will require an investment of some US$596.6 million. Colombia’s Transport Ministry says that the project will improve road connectivity between the capital and Buenaventura. The Colombian Government has approved the country's eighth public-private partnership (PPP) to transform the Bogota-Girardot route into a six-lane highway. The project will require an investment of some US$596.6 million. Colombia’s Transport Ministry says that the project will improve road connectivity between the capital and Buenaventura. The work will require maintenance, restoration and improvement works over a distance of some 146km. Construction work on the project as well as the Circunvalar de la Prosperidad route will commence in late October 2015 with the construction of the 5.4km viaduct over the Cienaga de la Virgen coastal lake in Cartagena. Work on the Pumarejo Bridge will commence earlier, on 19 August 2015. This bridge is expected to open on 18 May 2018.

    Colombia's national infrastructure agency ANI will auction 13 road projects with a combined value of more than US$7.87 billion (COP 15 trillion) in H1 2014, out of 40 planned. Nine of the scheduled auction projects have gone through the pre-qualification stage and will be definitely awarded in the first quarter of next year. In total, all 40 projects will involve investments of COP 47tn. The plan is to improve 8,000kms of roads in the country.
