Colombia highway project – moving ahead as financing secured

The financing includes loans and funds and is being provided jointly by Colombia's national development bank Financiera de Desarrollo Nacional (FDN), Spain's Official Credit Institute (Instituto de Credito Oficial) and debt funds Ashmore-Caf and Blackrock.

The financing includes loans and funds and is being provided jointly by Colombia's national development bank Financiera de Desarrollo Nacional (FDN), Spain's Official Credit Institute (Instituto de Credito Oficial) and debt funds Ashmore-Caf and Blackrock. The 137km highway project will see the upgrade of an existing link connecting Colombia’s Casanare Department, Cundinamarca Department and Boyaca Department. The project will not be without its technical challenges as the route also involves upgrades to 53 bridges and 15 road tunnels.

    The bidding process for the Agua Negra Tunnel project that will link Chile with Argentina looks set to commence in July or August 2016. The bidding is being organised jointly by the governments of both Chile and Argentina. One source of funding for the project is also now secured, with a loan of US$1.5 billion being provided by the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB). In addition the IADB has also approved $20 million in funding for Chile and Argentina to finance the project's environmental impact studie
