Colombia bridge collapse closes route stretch

A bridge on Colombia’s Bogota-Villavicencio collapsed with the deaths of 10 personnel. This has caused the closure of the route close to the El Naranjal tolling area to all but emergency vehicles. in Meta department. The Chirajara Bridge forms part of the project to construct the road to connect capital Bogota with Villavicencio. The National Infrastructure Agency (ANI) held an emergency meeting with road concessionaire Coviandes, which is managing the project to construct the bridge.

The Inter-American Development Bank Group’s private sector subsidiary, IDB Invest, is supplying close to US$207 million for the four road projects to the development firms handling the works.
