Cojaal’s Algeria road contract restarting?

In yet another reversal for a key Algerian road project, the Algerian Government has overturned its earlier decision to cancel Cojaal’s contract. The Algerian Government opted to change its 2014 decision to cancel a contract with Japanese construction company Cojaal. The project is for Algeria’s massive East-West highway, for which Cojaal was working on an eastern stretch. Talks are being carried to reach an agreement with Cojaal, which was initially awarded the contract to build a 399km stretch of motorway

In yet another reversal for a key Algerian road project, the Algerian Government has overturned its earlier decision to cancel Cojaal’s contract. The Algerian Government opted to change its 2014 decision to cancel a contract with Japanese construction company Cojaal. The project is for Algeria’s massive East-West highway, for which Cojaal was working on an eastern stretch.     The contract for a major highway project in Algeria worth US$242.3 million has been awarded to a consortium. The work involves building a 31km urban highway connecting the port of Skikda to the country’s East-West highway. Portuguese contractor Teixeira Duarte-Engenharia e Construccoes forms part of a consortium with Algerian groups Sero EST Batna and Nardjess Travaux Publics. The new highway will have three lanes in each direction and has to be completed within 24 months.

    Work on Algeria’s East-West highway is drawing to its final conclusion, after several years of activity. The final stretch will connect Algeria with Tunisia and construction of this section is due to restart before the end of 2017. When the tender process is announced, the projected cost of the work will also be released.
