Chinese firm building new Mozambique bridge

Contractor China Roads and Bridges is building a new bridge link in Mozambique as part of a project worth some US$725 million. The contractor is also building the new ring road around Mozambique’s capital Maputo in a deal worth some $315 million, with the work due for completion by the end of 2014. The project for the Maputo-Catembe River Bridge also includes construction of road connections to Ponte do Ouro.

    The first stage of a controversial Russian bridge project is now complete, with the link having been opened to use by cars and buses. The Kerch Strait bridge spans the Black Sea, connecting Russia’s Taman Peninsula in Krasnodar with Crimea, the latter having been controversially annexed by Russia from Ukraine in 2014.     Construction work is due to start shortly on the new Frunzensky Bridge in Russia, which will span the Samara River. The project is expected to take 35 months to carry out with the start date having been announced as December 2014. The work will also include building a new junction to connect the approach to the bridge with an existing highway. The project cost has been budgeted at just over US$264 million.
