Official approval has been given for the design of a stretch of the expressway linking Jiaozuo and Pingdingshan. The approval is for the 46km stretch between Xingyang and Xinmi. This section of the expressway will cost US$1.5 billion to construct, featuring three lanes in either direction.

Jiaozuo and Pingdingshan are located some 167km apart geographically while the journey by road is around 241km at present. This new expressway will shorten the distance considerably, reducing journey times for drivers.
