Work on a new bridge spanning the Yangtze River in China is now underway. The Wangdong Yangtze River Bridge project is expected to cost US$758.6 million to construct. The bridge will be 38km long in total and is due for completion in 2015.
Work is now underway on India’s Rohtang tunnel project, located in Himachal Pradesh. The 9km long tunnel is expected to cost US$365.75 million and with work having just started, is due for completion before 2015. The project was first suggested back in 1983 but it has taken until now for the work to get underway. When complete the link will reduce the travel distance between the Lahaul Valley and the green Kullu Valley by 46km. The link will improve India’s transport connections to China. The 11m wide link
A new 3km long bridge is planned for Yakutsk in Siberia. This bridge will cross the River Lena and is at present expected to cost some US$1.74 billion to construct. The tender process for the project was initially to be held until the end of 2013. The timing of the tender process for the two lane bridge will now be announced in due course. Design and construction is expected to take six years once the contract is signed. Drivers will not pay tolls to use the bridge and instead the investor will be paid fees
Plans are now being drawn up in India for the new Ganga River bridge crossing project. Costing US$395.3 million, the project has now been given the necessary approval by India’s prime minister. Construction is expected to take 40 months once work is underway, with completion due in 2023. The main bridge will measure 5,634m however the work includes building a 1,580m viaduct, 13 interchanges, four smaller bridges and a 110m flyover. It also includes four vehicular underpasses and a rail over bridge.
