Work on a new bridge spanning the Yangtze River in China is now underway. The Wangdong Yangtze River Bridge project is expected to cost US$758.6 million to construct. The bridge will be 38km long in total and is due for completion in 2015.
Work is underway on the Laohekou-Gucheng-Hanjiang Bridge in Hubei Province, China. When complete the bridge will measure some 11.7km long in all, including the 4.8km long central Laohekou-Gucheng section. The project includes a 1,453m long main bridge, which is costing some US$188 million to construct. In China, the news that the construction industry has been waiting for came with an announcement over infrastructure spending. The Chinese Government said it will invest heavily in infrastructure spending over the next few years, some US$157 billion, particularly in extending the country’s high speed rail network. New highway and bridge projects are being planned that will boost connectivity in the Russian Federation. One project lies close to the city of Ufa while another is in the Perm Region. The project to build the new Eastern Exit highway link close to Ufa, capital of the Republic of Bashkortostan, is now expected to cost US$590.1 million, compared with the $503.3 million that was originally anticipated.
