China’s Jiangsu Province invests in infrastructure

In China Jiangsu Province has set an impressive infrastructure budget. Some US$11.38 billion has been earmarked for transportation infrastructure projects during 2014. Of the total, $4.53 billion will be invested into road construction projects, while some $454.8 million will be targeted at the construction of civil airports.

    A new highway is planned in Bangladesh that will improve transport links to Dhaka’s airport. The route will run between Ashulia on the north-eastern side of the Bangladesh capital and Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. The construction project is intended to boost trade and transport and is expected to cost US$2.06 billion. The Bangladesh Government is giving its approval for the project and will provide $725.3 million of the financing required from its own budget.

    In Ethiopia plans are in hand for a series of major road projects. The Ethiopian Government has set out a programme of road building contracts to expand the country’s transportation network. The Addis Ababa City Roads Authority (AACRA) intends to build 600km of roads in the 2014/2015 fiscal year. This will extend Ethiopia’s road network from 4,671-5,275km.     The authorities in Vietnam’s coastal Quang Ninh Province have set out a transport infrastructure development plan. The programme of works will prioritise development of the Van Don Economic Zone (Van Don EZ) under the plan. The programme of works involved is expected to be worth US$358 million. New roads are planned, along with new bridges to provide better connections to some of the many islands in the province.
