906 Chile's Ministry of Public Works has revealed that work on the Vespucio Oriente highway will now cost US$2 billion. The complexity of the project is the cause for the cost increase. The tender process for the project should commence by mid-2012. The project will be for a 13km length and much of it will run underground, with the route crossing seven districts. Work is expected to begin in 2014.
The Indian Government has revealed that 146,133 people died in crashes on the country’s roads during 2015. This figure is of concern as it is an increase of 4.6% over India’s road fatality rate of 139,671 for the previous year. A key link road in Vietnam has been given the go ahead. The plan is for a new road to run from the Noi Bai - Lao Cai Highway to Sapa District. The construction project has been authorised by the People's Committee of Lao Cai Province in Vietnam. The 27km link road will be challenging to construct however as it will run through some of the country’s mountainous areas. The project will include building five viaducts and four flyovers crossing streams. The project is expected to cost close to US$115 million. T
The UK’s Department for Transport (DfT) has put forward five alternate route options for a new highway connecting the cities of Manchester and Sheffield. The project looks likely to include a major tunnel section measuring as much as 20-30km in length that would run under the Peak District.
