906 Chile's Ministry of Public Works has revealed that work on the Vespucio Oriente highway will now cost US$2 billion. The complexity of the project is the cause for the cost increase. The tender process for the project should commence by mid-2012. The project will be for a 13km length and much of it will run underground, with the route crossing seven districts. Work is expected to begin in 2014.
The tender process for Brazil’s 364/365 highway will commence in mid-September 2019. The 437km route connects Jatai, Ituiutaba and Uberlandia in Minas Gerais State. The concession deal will be for 30 years and investment in the road is expected to be worth US$1.22 billion. The tender will be awarded to the firm offering the lowest toll rate. The national land transport agency, ANTT, is overseeing the tender process.
Work is underway in Tunisia on the westbound Highway from capital Tunis towards the Algerian border. This 60km link will run from the town of Oued Zarga to Boussalem and the work is being carried out by Italian contractor Todini and local company Soroubat. The bidding process for the 100km highway from Gabes to Medenine is now being opened, while bidding for the 92km road from Medenine to the Libyan border outpost of Ras Jedir opened in October 2012. Construction work on the fourth bridge spanning Chile’s Biobio Bridge is proceeding on schedule. The project site is located in Chile’s Gran Concepcion area. Construction could commence in 2016, with completion expected in 2018. Environmental studies have yet to be completed however. The work will be carried out as part of a concession package and the bridge is expected to cost some US$214 million to construct, carrying two lanes for vehicle traffic as well as claiming pedestrian and cycling connectivity.
