Chile highways subject to negotiation

Key highway links in Chile are likely to see upgrading, although the operation of the links could change. The country’s Ministry of Public Works (MOP) is keen to see widening work for Ruta 68, a route currently operated by Abertis. However MOP has not revealed if it intends to buy back the Ruta 68 contract from the operator and then put the highway back out to tender, with the new deal then including the widening work. Key highway links in Chile are likely to see upgrading, although the operation of the links could change. The country’s Ministry of Public Works (MOP) is keen to see widening work for Ruta 68, a route currently operated by 5729 Abertis. However MOP has not revealed if it intends to buy back the Ruta 68 contract from the operator and then put the highway back out to tender, with the new deal then including the widening work. It may prove simpler to strike a new deal with Abertis that includes the necessary highway upgrade.

Meanwhile interest is strong in Chile’s Americo Vespucio Oriente 2 motorway project (AVO). Abertis and another Spanish firm, Sacyr, are showing interest in this highway and have discussed running it under a partnership arrangement.

    Infrastructure Malta, the government’s road agency, is putting out to tender contracts for the upgrade of 170 residential roads worth around €70 million. The work is divided into six contracts and covers a total of 52km of roads as well as 85km of pavement/sidewalks, signage and where necessary stormwater improvements.     Mont Blanc Motorways and Tunnel - ATMB - will have free-flow tolling under a 10-year contract awarded to Emovis, a subsidiary of Abertis Mobility Services.

    Emovis will convert 58km of the A40 motorway in France into a free-flow tolling system the is set to be operational by spring 2027, replacing the current toll plazas. Five bidirectional toll gantries will be installed along the route between the towns of Sallanches and Annemasse.
