Bridge under construction collapses in Nepal

A bridge under construction linking Bhoteodar and Bharate in Nepal's Lamjung District has collapsed. The bridge is located in Western Nepal and spans the Marsyangdi River. Work on the truss type bridge commenced in February 2009 and the structure has a span of 65m and is 4m wide. At the time of the collapse, 25 construction workers were at the site and three are posted as missing while two were injured and were taken to hospital for treatment. Officials at the western divisional road office in Damauli say that the cause of the collapse will be known following completion of a detailed investigation. The contractor involved in the project is Radha Construction.

    Construction work is now commencing for a major new bridge project in China. The bridge is being built in Hainan Province and will measure close to 5.7km long when complete. It will link the mainland of Hainan Province with Ruyi Islet.     Crane service provider Sarens has used a Terex Superlift 3800 lattice boom crawler crane to lift a pedestrian and bicycle steel bridge over the A4 Autoroute near Schiltigheim, in the Aisace region of France.     Two heavy Atlas Copco hydraulic breakers have been used to demolish a bridge on the A40 autobahn at Junction 28 in Gelsenkirchen-Süd, Germany. The bridge was used to carry the four lanes of the A40 over the B277 main road. As the key route in the Ruhr district, the A40 is being widened to incorporate six lanes, so the old bridge needed to be demolished.
