Bolivia road project delay as tenders behind schedule

Bolivia’s US$554 million Occidente road project is running behind schedule and is now expected to be complete in 2020. Construction of one section, from Caracollo-Confital, is underway with close to 60% of the work having been complete. However two of the three sections of the route have not yet been put to tender. Bolivia’s US$554 million Occidente road project is running behind schedule and is now expected to be complete in 2020. Construction of one section, from Caracollo-Confital, is underway with close to 60% of the work having been complete. However two of the three sections of the route have not yet been put to tender. The work for the Caracollo-Confital stretch was to have been completed by January 2018 but will now be finished by September 2018. This stretch was delayed by poor weather as well as material shortages. A decision for the stretch from Confital-Bombeo is still pending however as the contractor has yet to be selected. The necessary studies for the stretch from Bombeo-Parotani have yet to be completed.
