Belarus key highway upgrade project planned

Belarus is planning to rebuild the existing M-10 highway link, which connects with the EU to the west and Russia to the east. Running through the south of the country the M-10 connects Brest on the border with Poland, to Gomel close to the border with Russia. The work is expected to cost €185 million to carry out and the project is being planned under the PPP model. Various bids have already been made for the work, with contractors from Turkey and China amongst those tendering.

The Chinese contractor China Overseas Engineering Group Co (Covec) is appealing against a decision made by the Polish national road authority GDDKiA.     There is a lot of work to do on Bulgarian roads, but the government has plans to increase the length of highways built each year as Krasimir Krastanov reports. Bulgarian roads with a pavement make up 98.4% of all the country's roads, while 92.5% of them have an asphalt surface and 82.8% of them are able to carry 10tonnes/axle.
