Building Bangkok’s new Rama III-Dao Khanong-Western Bangkok Outer Ring Expressway should help reduce the city centre’s chronic congestion

An agreement has been reached regarding work to Thailand’s RAMA III-Dao Khanong-Western Bangkok Outer Ring Expressway project. The deal was made between the Expressway Authority of Thailand (Exat) and CTB Joint Venture (JV) (CTB), having previously been delayed due to the need for a study into the project.

Two other contracts for stretches of the project have yet to be finalised. These contracts are worth US$185.69 million and $179.66 million.

The Rama III-Dao Khanong-Western Bangkok Outer Ring Expressway will feature elevated highway sections. The construction work includes building on and off ramps, bridges and tolling facilities.

The new expressway should help reduce traffic delays in the centre of the city. Thailand’s capital Bangkok is notorious for its heavy congestion and is amongst the worst cities in the world for traffic delays. According to the most recent TomTom Traffic Index, Bangkok no longer has the dubious honour of being in the Top 10 worst cities for congestion however, having slipped to 11th place.
