Azerbaijan rebuilds and maintains roads during 2017

Azerbaijan managed to rebuild and maintain 1,335km of its road network during 2017. Around 314km of key national road links were improved, along with 889km of local roads. In the capital, Baku, 133km of roads were built or improved. The programme also included the construction of 15 bridges as well as repairs works to a further nine. For 2018 Azerbaijan intends to make improvements to 2,000km of existing road links.

  • Tunisia to rebuild road routes

    Tunisia has major plans to upgrade its road network, with work due to commence in 2016. The Tunisian Government has said it intends to modernise 718km of roads across the country. The aim is to widen roads to 7.6m so that they meet international standards. The scheme will cover 21 governorates. Five national roads will be upgraded with a total distance of 105km, while 20 regional roads covering a distance of 320km will be updated.     An ambitious road improvement scheme has been proposed by the Mozambique Government. The programme of works calls for the paving of 2,100km of roads by 2019. The scheme will address both national and regional roads across the country between 2015 and 2019, covering around 420km/year of roads on average.     Moscow-based infrastructure group Doraeroproekt Institute will design a bridge over the Samur River under an agreement between Russia and Azerbaijan. The new bridge will carry around 37,000 vehicles a day and link the two villages of Samur in Azerbaijan and the Russian village of Yarag-Kazmalar. The announcement follows the signing by the two governments of a bridge protocol in mid-2013 as part of other infrastructure project agreements.
