A Finnish firm, Caverion, will handle improvement works for the S1 route on the southern side of Austria’s capital, Vienna.

The work will see tunnels on the ‘Wiener Außenring Schnellstraße’ expressway route, between Vösendorf and Schwechat, being improved. Electrical systems will be upgraded for the tunnels, as will the traffic monitoring technology and drainage systems.

The work will boost safety for the 880m Vösendorf Tunnel and 1.9km Rannersdorf Tunnel. In addition, the Hennersdorf Tunnel, Rustenfeld Tunnel and Schwechat Tunnel will also benefit from improvements.

Work is due to commence in February 2021 and should be finished in late 2022.
