The tender process is gearing up for a  major road project in Australia. The work is intended to reduce congestion in Sydney, New South Wales.

Three partnerships have now qualified to enter the tender process. The work will be for the M6 highway and includes building a tunnel section.

One of the consortia is made up of Malaysian firm Gamuda in a partnership with Australian company BMD Construction. Another of the joint ventures tendering for the work comprise CPB and Ghella. The third is a Spanish and South Korean partnership between Acciona and Samsung.

The work is expected to cost US$1.83 billion (A$2.6 billion). The project will improve journey times for drivers in the south of Sydney. Drivers using the new road link will be able to avoid a series of traffic lights on the existing Princess Highway.
