Amsterdam tunnel widening project

In Amsterdam widening work is now underway on the A10 motorway project close to Zuidas. In Amsterdam widening work is now underway on the A10 motorway project close to Zuidas. The project is expected to take 10 years in all to complete and is being carried out in a bid to cut congestion at peak periods. Costing €990 million, the work is being carried out by a consortium that comprises local firm 1271 Heijmans, US company 6343 Fluor and the German contractor 981 Hochtief. The project was awarded to the consortium by the Dutch infrastructure board Rijkswatersaat, the local council of Amsterdam, the rail services provider Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS) and the rail infrastructure services provider ProRail. The project will see the motorway being widened from eight lanes at present to 12 in the future, with the new link being placed in a tunnel. Running the route underground will allow additional space to construct metro lines on the surface. The project team says that while the work is underway it will ensure traffic disturbance is minimised for drivers using the existing route.

  • Netherlands to finish widening of the A1 from Amsterdam to Germany

    Dutch construction company Heijmans has been awarded the final contract for the A1 motorway project between Apeldoorn and Azelo in the Netherlands. The €127 million contract will see the widening of 28km of motorway between Twello and Deventer to eight lanes and the road between Deventer-Oost and Rijssen widened to six lanes.
