Algeria’s major highway close to completion

Work on Algeria’s East-West highway is drawing to its final conclusion, after several years of activity. The final stretch will connect Algeria with Tunisia and construction of this section is due to restart before the end of 2017. When the tender process is announced, the projected cost of the work will also be released. The Algerian Government is keen for work on this last stretch of the highway to be complete by the end of 2018.

Work on Algeria’s East-West highway is drawing to its final conclusion, after several years of activity. The final stretch will connect Algeria with Tunisia and construction of this section is due to restart before the end of 2017. When the tender process is announced, the projected cost of the work will also be released.   • Algeria’s progress with roads and highways

    Algeria has made significant progress with rebuilding its road system, boosting its network and adding extra capacity. Since 1999, 23,000 km of roads, including 1,200 km of highways, have been built in the country. The Ministry of Public Works said that work on a further 1,200 km of highways will be launched shortly. The 73km highway stretch between Khemis Miliana and Oued Fodda has now opened to traffic following upgrading works. The segment forms part of Algeria’s East-West highway.

    The contract for a major highway project in Algeria worth US$242.3 million has been awarded to a consortium. The work involves building a 31km urban highway connecting the port of Skikda to the country’s East-West highway. Portuguese contractor Teixeira Duarte-Engenharia e Construccoes forms part of a consortium with Algerian groups Sero EST Batna and Nardjess Travaux Publics. The new highway will have three lanes in each direction and has to be completed within 24 months.
