Software specialist 334 SoundPLAN is now offering the latest version of its sophisticated noise-mapping package worldwide.

The 4.0 package has been trialled in Germany and can be used to calculate the noise emissions from roads and other infrastructure such as railways. The package is said to be designed for users who only have an occasional requirement for a noise map. The firm says that the software can be used to deliver reliable tabular and graphical results for a standard noise calculation while requiring very little time to use.

SoundPLANessential version 4.0 introduced a new rail standard for noise predictions (Schall 03-2012). The improvements in the new version include better positioning of receiver points and enhanced manipulation of objects within the maps, along with better use of colours for clarity and a new display option of geometry bitmaps in a 3D view.

Innovation in earthmoving machines will help users reduce running costs while boosting productivity - Mike Woof writes. The earthmoving equipment market is hotly contested and is one in which manufacturers compete hard to introduce machines with working advantages over rival models. This has fuelled strong competition in terms of machine performance and quality over the years, resulting in the development of high-performance equipment that is also reliable and long lasting. This is particularly true of the

Machine control technologies were pioneered in the concrete paving sector with systems having been used for over 10 years. Leica Geosystems was the first of the machine control technology suppliers to offer these systems on concrete slipforming machines and has developed a strong position in this segment. However the company met resistance from some quarters in the construction market and specialist Karl Soar said that some contractors were very reluctant to give up using conventional stringlines. He said,

    June 13, 2012
Legislative and economic factors are impacting upon the earthmoving equipment market - Mike Woof reports No-one who has any connection with the construction equipment sector can have failed to notice that increasingly tough emissions legislation has changed the shape of machines over the last 10 years or so. A series of targets have been set and met with regard to the exhaust emissions permitted from off-highway machines used in North America and Europe. The latest round of requirements has seen the intr
