Plenty of new developments from Topcon according to Ray O’Connor
7300 Topcon Positioning Systems (TPS) is adding to its portfolio with the acquisition of Finnish firm 2601 Dynaroad, a specialist construction software provider. TPS first bought a major stake in Dynaroad in 2011 and is now completing its ownership to make the business 100% owned. Dynaroad is a specialist in the field of construction software and develops project management packages for use in large-scale projects such as highways, tunnels, airports and ports. Ray O’Connor, TPS president and CEO, said that by acquiring 100% of Dynaroad, “…contractors and designers who are looking to cut construction costs through design optimisation and better task management now have a strong central source for production management with Dynaroad being integrated to other Topcon systems.

The Deal provides TPS with a new technology centre in Helsinki, where the team has already worked closely alongside its new parent for four years. The Deal will see the Dynaroad software combined with Topcon’s Sitelink3D ENTERPRISE to provide a real-time task management tool. O’Connor said that this move delivers, “…an integrated machine control solution for all phases of earthworks projects, from pre-planning to construction.”

For customers, the acquisition will provide better integration of machine control and planning software. This will give clients a better understanding of site status and more time to spend on optimising production according to the firm. TPS said that the Dynaroad software and services focus on improving construction economics and that joined with the Topcon machine automation and real-time communication tools, will deliver higher productivity to customers. Following the acquisition, the Dynaroad products will be available through Topcon dealers worldwide. With the new Helsinki Technology Centre, Topcon now has seven technology centres around the globe, including in Japan, Australia, Italy and Russia, as well as two in the US in Ohio and California.
