Software specialist Bentley Systems  has announced the winners of its Year in Infrastructure 2020 Awards. These annual awards highlight innovation amongst users of Bentley products in advancing the design, construction, and operation of infrastructure around the world.

There were 16 independent jury panels that selected the 57 finalists from over 400 nominations submitted by more than 330 organisations from more than 60 countries.

Bentley Systems acknowledged 19 Year in Infrastructure 2020 Awards winners and 14 Special Recognition awardees on October 21st during the Year in Infrastructure 2020 Conference, held virtually for the first time.

In the ‘Advancing Project and Asset Longevity’ category, the award went to HDR for its work on the Marc Basnight Bridge located in Dare County, North Carolina. This is the latest in a series of awards won by HDR for the Marc Basnight bridge project, built in a highly challenging coastal location suffering ferocious storms and tidal flows.

For the ‘Advancing Bridge Asset Performance Modeling’ category, the award went to the Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST) for ‘A Smartwatch on the Bridge’ in Ulsan, Ulju-gun, South Korea.

The award for Bridges went to Chongqing Communications Planning, Survey & Design Institute, Guizhou Communications Construction Group and Guizhou Bridge Construction Group, for the Digital Design and Construction of Taihong Yangtze River Bridge in Chongqing, China.

The Roads and Highways category was awarded to Sichuan Road & Bridge (Group), for its highly innovative BIM Technology Application on Chengdu-Yibin Expressway in Chengdu, Sichuan, China. The firm won for its exceptional levels of innovation on the project, including building a facility for manufacturing all the precast bridge members to predetermined designs to suit each specific installation.

Detailed descriptions of all the nominated projects are in the print and digital versions of Bentley’s 2020 Infrastructure Yearbook, which will be published in early 2021. To review the past editions of this publication, access Bentley’s Infrastructure Yearbooks.

The Marc Basnight bridge has been the subject of several articles in World Highways for the innovative processes utilised by HDR during the design and construction of the project.
