Innovation in infrastructure engineering was highlighted at the annual 4019 Bentley Systems awards ceremony, held in London’s Metropole Hotel. A series of major project were given awards for the innovative ways in which software from Bentley has been used to deliver challenging projects more quickly and efficiently.

Prior to the event teams of jurors had already viewed a wide range of entrants across many engineering disciplines, selecting three finalists in each category. The jurors then met at the event and discussed each finalist, before selecting the final winners. In the category for innovation in roads, the finalists included 1397 AECOM for its project to design a 31.5km stretch of the E4 highway in Sweden and the 2284 Danish Road Directorate for its work on a 39km stretch of highway from Herning-Holstebro. However it was Grontmij that won for its work in planning the A6 improvement close to Manchester.

For innovation in megaprojects, AECOM won an award for its work on the E4 Stockholm bypass project in Sweden (which will be reported in World Highways in 2016). In innovation in bridges LCW Consult won for its work for a landmark bridge in Coimbra District, Portugal.
