Topcon Positioning Group has released a new workflow management system designed to connect all of a contractor’s sites, data, crews and equipment. Unveiled at Conexpo 2014 this week, Topcon Enterprise Solutions offers constant communication, data sharing, scheduling, updating, support activities and accurate productivity data in real-time, no matter where the job or office is located.
Machine control technologies were pioneered in the concrete paving sector with systems having been used for over 10 years. Leica Geosystems was the first of the machine control technology suppliers to offer these systems on concrete slipforming machines and has developed a strong position in this segment. However the company met resistance from some quarters in the construction market and specialist Karl Soar said that some contractors were very reluctant to give up using conventional stringlines. These new technical developments are making it much easier to process and use the data captured and are providing highways engineers with powerful tools to record, map and visualise their assets.
