The panel of experts from Trimble and Dynapac discussed where the construction industry is on the path to autonomy at present, where it is heading, and Trimble’s overall corporate vision for the future. Trimble’s philosophy is that machine autonomy is about more than just controlling the machine. To move the industry forward, autonomy solutions must also turn real-time data into real-time information to optimise and coordinate the jobsite of the future according to Trimble. Providing full access to that data presents a challenge, but can be achieved.
A new survey carried out in the UK reveals that male drivers are more likely to risk lives by overtaking blind and speeding on rural roads. As a result male drivers are being urged to be more careful. The survey was carried out jointly by safety body Brake and insurance firm Direct Line. The data reveals that 24% of drivers risk catastrophic head-on crashes by overtaking blind, while 44% admit speeding at over the national speed limit of 96km/h (60mph) on rural roads. German engine firm Deutz is reporting strong financial performance for the first nine months of 2017. The latest results reveal a marked increase in new orders, revenue and EBIT and a significant improvement in free cash flow. The firm also believes it is well positioned for the future as its E-Deutz strategy has been accelerated by the recent acquisition of Torqeedo.
The firm says that new orders rose by 25.5% to reach €1,173.8 million, compared with €935.3 million for the same period in 2016.
