IronPlanet, a leading online marketplace for used heavy equipment, has made a strong start to 2014, selling US$26.8 million in used heavy equipment and trucks during a global auction event held 28-31 January.
The four-day auction included equipment listed in the US, Canada, Mexico and Europe. In total, 1,795 items were sold to over 1,000 buyers. Strong demand in the market was demonstrated by online bids placed from 78 different countries as well as from every US state and all 10 Canadian provinces.
The Highways Department (HD) in Thailand is considering an extension on two elevated roads from Bangkok to maintain its traffic links with the South, North and Northeast should the capital be hit with floods. The HD would extend Boromratchonnanee Elevated Road from Phutthamonthon Sai 2 Road to Phetkasem Road to make sure that traffic to the South does not face any disruption caused by floods in the future. The possible move was disclosed by the HD director-general, Chatchawal Buncharoenkit.
UK road safety body, the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) has revealed that oversees drivers have escaped 23,295 speeding offences since January 2013. This equates to some €2.92 million (£2.3 million) worth of speeding tickets. The figures were revealed following a freedom of information request to police authorities, asking how many overseas motorists had been caught by speed cameras across England and Wales. As foreign vehicles are not registered with the DVLA these speeding offences are not pursued
