Authorities on the North East coast of the United States have begun repairing damaged highways and road bridges as part of a multi-billion dollar huge clean-up operation following the recent devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy. In the UK, Kier Group has completed its purchase of Mouchel, the infrastructure repair and maintenance provider. The deal worth just more than €364 million (US$405 million) strengthens Kier's position in the British highways maintenance and management sector. A €467 million rights issue was used to finance the deal.
The Mersey Gateway bridge project off England’s west coast passed a milestone recently with the first joining of two of the deck sections. The key segments, as the sections are called, link the north approach viaduct to the north pylon deck span and are the first of four deck-joins scheduled for this summer. In total, there are five sections of bridge deck and approach roads that need to be joined.
