VIDEO: Major bridge removal project for Boise, Idaho

A bridge demolition project is being carried out in Boise, the capital of US state Idaho.  Work is being carried out on the removal of the Broadway Avenue Bridge. The project also includes upgrades to the stretch of road that connects University Drive and Front Street in the city. A fleet of excavators fitted with demolition attachments is being used to remove the old structure and the new link will not be ready until the third quarter of 2016. Idaho Department of Transportation has set a series of diversions in place in the meantime.

    A US contractor has carried out a successful demolition job on a bridge using excavators fitted with hydraulic breakers. The fleet of 178 Caterpillar excavators used for the work managed to break up the ageing structure in just 11 hours. The old Pigeon Roost road bridge will now be replaced with another, more modern structure better able to carry the necessary traffic load.     A new bridge project in Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City will help cut traffic congestion. The project is expected to cost in the region of US$157 million and four contractors will work on the construction of the 3.2km long Bình Tiên Bridge. The plans call for the bridge to carry four traffic lanes and be from 30-40m wide, although the design has yet to be finalised.     Parsons Brinckerhoff and Seymour Whyte are working on a joint venture partnership contract for the Smith Street Motorway and Olsen Avenue Interchange upgrade in Queensland.     A successful explosive bridge demolition job has been carried out in the US State of Kentucky. After a short delay, demolition specialists managed to remove the old Eggners Ferry Bridge successfully and without incident. The explosives broke up the four middle spans of the structure. The demolition job was not without its challenges, with concern over the presence of nesting ospreys on the structure. Demolition personnel had to keep a distance of 90m from the nesting area, which delayed preparations.
