VIDEO - Canadian contractor demolishing overpass

Canadian contractor Delsan has carried out a successful demolition of an overpass in Quebec. The firm used a number of John Deere excavators equipped with breakers and cutters to break up the overpass in a controlled demolition job. The structure was located in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue and needed to be removed as it had been made redundant.

  • Flyover collapses in Indian city Kolkata

    A flyover has collapsed in the Indian city of Kolkata. Reports from the local press suggest 14 fatalities and upwards of 150 people being trapped in the wreckage. The Times of India reports that the flyover was under construction at the time of its collapse and the reason for the structural failure has yet to be determined. The flyover is located in a densely populated area in the north of the city and the death toll looks likely to climb.

    Montreal’s US$3.5-billion, 3.4km-long Samuel de Champlain Bridge has opened after four years of construction and months of delays, according to Canadian media reports. Work is continuing on the cycle and pedestrian paths and eventually a light-rail train will run down the middle of the six lane bridge over the St. Lawrence River.
