VIDEO – California freeway bridge demolition in progress

A bridge demolition job is underway in California at present. The Carmenita Road Bridge, which crosses the Santa Ana Freeway, is being removed in stages. The work is being carried out at night when the I-5 route is closed to traffic, so as to minimise the impact for daytime peak traffic flow. The work is being carried out by a specialist contractor on behalf of 5246 Caltrans in the Santa Fe Springs area. The three week job is being closed overnight seven days a week between Rosecrans and Valley View avenues. The work forms part of the Carmenita Road Interchange project. The new Carmenita Bridge has been built and features four traffic lanes in either direction, compared with two lanes for the old bridge now being demolished.

    A new bridge project is being planned for the German city of Bonn. The city has three bridges crossing the Rhein River, the North, South and Kennedy Bridges. The North Bridge is in need of replacement as it is no longer able to meet the city’s traffic needs.
