Loosely defined, an interchange is a road junction that uses grade separation and ramps to allow at least one highway to pass through the junction without intersecting another highway.

A simple definition for many apparently complex interchanges worldwide.

The thing about a road interchanges is that, as a driver, you fail to see how large – or complex – the structure is. This compilation, called the top 10 craziest intersections, shows you what you miss as you hurtle through an interchange - from the UK and France to the US and over to China and Japan.
