LiuGong is setting the pace in the rigid dumptruck market with its introduction of a new, all-electric machine. The DR50CE truck is aimed at the 50tonne capacity class and features a loaded gross weight of 85tonnes. According to the firm, this self-charging truck has proved its capability in Norway’s demanding tunnelling and quarrying applications.
A major innovation for California will be the wider availability of hydrogen as a ‘green’ fuel source for motor vehicles. Plans are in hand with the establishment of FirstElement Fuel, a retail hydrogen fuelling start-up business, being part-funded by automotive giant Toyota Motor. FirstElement Fuel is headed by former marketing chief of General Motors Joel Ewanick and is receiving US$7.2 million of funding from Toyota. CASE has officially opened its new €3 million Case Customer Centre Paris, France, which will allow customers from around the world to experience the full range of Case Construction Equipment in real job site working conditions. The centre, north of the French capital, includes 1,900m² of showrooms, an auditorium, a restaurant and workshops, and is set in the heart of 16 hectares of specifically designed working zones.
Volvo CE plans to acquire specialist firm CeDe Group, based in Malmo, Sweden. CeDe modifies construction machines for use in special applications, adapting equipment in low volumes. The deal is for an undisclosed sum and will include CeDe’s intellectual property, operations and other assets. As the annual volumes produced are relatively low, the deal will have no major effect on Volvo CE’s financial position.
