As the 7th-ranked world power, South East Asia is one of the world’s most dynamic and high-growth zones. More than US$60 billion of investment in infrastructure projects is planned per year between now and 2022. The region’s importance to the global construction equipment sector can’t be overestimated.
A new twin tube tunnel in Mexico City will help reduce the city’s chronic congestion problem, which is particularly acute at peak travel periods. The tunnel is located at Mixcoac in the south west of the city and should be ready by August 2017. The new twin bore tunnel link will reduce traffic jams on the city’s Circuito Interior urban highway, which handles up to 300,000 vehicles/hour at peak travel periods. Mexico City’s traffic jams are notorious and journey times can be infuriatingly long at times.
In late 2014, SolaRoad, reportedly the first solar roadway, was opened in Amsterdam, along 70m of a cycle path between two suburbs of the Dutch capital. SolaRoad consists of a cycle path constructed of concrete modules measuring 2.5m x 3.5m. In one lane, solar cells are fitted underneath a tempered glass top layer of around 1cm thickness, covered by a rough, transparent coating. The solar electricity from the road is fed into the electricity grid.
