  • New bridge for Mumbai

    Plans are now in hand to tackle some of the chronic traffic congestion problems in Indian city Mumbai. Indian construction company, Reliance Infrastructure, will spend US$746.6 million building an eight-lane bridge between Worli and Haji Ali. The company entered an agreement with Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation. This new sea bridge should help address congestion issues for the roads in the south of Mumbai. The bridge is due for completion in 2014.

    The UK city of Sunderland, north-east England, looks set to see construction of a landmark cable-stayed bridge across the River Wear. The structure will be England's tallest bridge and will measure 187m high by 336m long. It has been designed by architect Stephen Spence and the structural engineering company Techniker.
  • New Algerian routes

    A major new expressway will link Tizi-Ouzou in Algeria to the country’s East-West highway. The local authorities have been given a budget of US$623 million for the project. The expressway will connect to the East-West highway at Bouira. The project forms part of the 2010-14 five year plan and is required as the existing route linking Tizi-Ouzou to the East-West highway, the TN 12, is now carrying more vehicles than it was designed for.   • New Links for Malaysia

    In Malaysia the government is setting aside a budget for a major package of road construction works in Sabah. The three new road upgrades will help ease traffic congestion at peak periods and the Works Ministry plans to open the tender process shortly. Some US$196.5 million will be spent on improving the 42km road that connects Jalan Dongongon and Simpang Papar. A budget of $140.8 million has been set for upgrades to the 81.5km road connecting Tawau and Semporna. For the project to improve and widen the roa
