A new road and bridge deal for Gabon will now be handled by Chinese contractor China Road & Bridge Corporation. The US$106 million deal includes construction of the new Booué Bridge as well as the Port Gentil-Omboue Road. Improving infrastructure has been identified as crucial for Gabon’s economy and the new road will be 93km long.
A new highway is planned in Malaysia that will run through Terengganu State and link Hulu Besut and Hulu Terengganu. The local authorities are setting funds aside worth nearly US$160 million for the highway project. The work will be carried out in stages and will take 36-48 months to complete. The first phase will be for a 40km stretch of the highway and is expected to cost some $35 million.
Fecon is looking to establish itself in the seismic and geothermal drilling markets after acquiring Dyno-Drill. Major road development is underway in Azerbaijan at present, with network expansion needed to help capitalise on the country’s strong extraction industry. The country’s Ministry of Transport has said that 225km of roads have been built in the first half of 2012. This construction work has required investments of close to US$901 million.
