Montreal bridge demolished using breakers – VIDEO

A demolition contractor in Canada has carried out a successful demolition of an old bridge in Montreal. The bridge crossed the 401 highway and was removed over a weekend. Work was carried out through the night for the structure to be removed within the allotted timeframe.

Demolition firm S Evans and Sons carried out the work, as a sub-contract to main contractor Balfour Beatty. The work involved removing the pedestrian bridge located close to the town of Stafford. The bridge spanned the busy M54 motorway and the work was carried out at night to minimise disturbance to the traffic flow.

    The Canadian province of Quebec plans to build a US$219 million bridge across the St Lawrence River alongside the existing Mercier Bridge in the city of Montreal.
