From Cat’s gigantic 992k wheeled loader and Komatsu’s awe-inspiring PC7000 loading shovel to Liebherr’s T264 colossus of roads and Benninghoven’s towering asphalt plant, see the biggest of the best in action at bauma 2016.
Komatsu expects to see ‘intelligent’ machine control as a standard feature on dozers, excavators and potentially other machines within 10 years. It has started the roll-out of its intelligent machines with the D61EXi/PXi-23 dozer and a prototype PC210LCi-10 excavator.
Erlau has chosen bauma 2013 to mark the 70th year since Erlau TPC says it invented the tyre protection chain.
A small drawing registered by Erlau in 1943 marks a pivotal moment in the history of bulk materials handling. At that time mining methods were changing as the lumbering steam shovels, rope-operated excavators and horse-drawn rail tubs, which had themselves superseded the pick and shovel, were being replaced by wheeled, hydraulic loading shovels and tipper-bodied trucks.
Caterpillar’s seventh generation 988 wheeled loader – the 988K – is powered by a Tier 4 Final/Stage IV Cat C18 ACERT diesel engine, featuring selective catalytic reduction and delivering 362kW. The engine is said to deliver a 20% fuel efficiency benefit compared to the 988H, thanks in part to an ECO mode with on-demand throttle, auto idle and engine idle kickdown/auto resume system. The 50tonne machine moves away from its predecessor’s monoboom loader arm design in favour of a Z-bar linkage.
