Consider the global road network. An improved road from one rural African town to another can reduce the journey time from a one-day walk to a one-hour drive. This could save lives through access to a hospital; allow small businesses to work faster by getting in supplies more quickly; allow children to attend a better equipped school.

XCMG, the Chinese construction equipment manufacturer, has held a ground-breaking ceremony for its manufacturing base in Pouso Alegre, Minas Gerais, Brazil. Covering an area of 800,000m² and with the total investment of US$200 million, the production facility will boast a production capability of 7,000 construction machines each year, including cranes, excavators, loaders, road rollers and graders.
