Hitachi develops tough machine for underground use

Hitachi used bauma 2016 to announce that it is expanding its European dealer network and launching a “tunnelling champion” based on its new ZX135US-5 SRF excavator. This short tailswing unit is made from heavy duty steel and has been designed to work in tight spaces underground.

    The ZH210-6 was presented by the Hitachi official Belgium dealer Luyckx at the recent Matexpo biennial trade fair in the Kortrijk Xpo centre. Power comes from a Komatsu SAA4D95LE Tier 4 Final/Stage IV compliant diesel delivering 69.7kW and which is said to be highly fuel efficient.

    Opened in 1955, the A2 is one of the busiest motorways in Switzerland, crossing the Alps and forming the main north-south axis from Basel to Chiasso. On a 3km stretch near the village of Rodi in Ticino, a ZX155W-7 owned by Otto Scerri SA has been employed on a project to replace the central reservation with asphalt, as well as renew the drainage between the two lanes of the highway.
