Software solutions providers Bentley and Trimble will collaborate to develop construction modeling products for asset performance that can be used by clients after handover of a project.
The announcement was made simultaneously at their separate conferences -- the Bentley Year in Infrastructure 2014 event in London, UK, and Trimble Dimensions 2014 in Las Vegas.

Trimble’s Site Vision package has been offered on limited release to a number of firms in EEP (early engagement program) format, to help develop the system. Scott Crozier is general manager of Trimble’s general construction division. He explained that Trimble is working with a number of selected customers at the leading edge of construction technology, so as to help refine the system for release in due course. These firms are encouraged to use the Site Vision package in parallel with existing systems.

Roz Buick, vice president Heavy Civil Construction at Trimble, has highlighted some key technology introductions from the firm. The GCS Flex system is an important introduction for Trimble and Buick explained, “The idea is to install a less complex system. We want to attract customers from the smaller contractors.” Comparatively low cost for a machine-control system, the basic GCS Flex package offers entry-level 2D technology and it can be upgraded to what Buick calls a ‘2½D’ system.
