Earthmoving equipment manufacturer Dressta is launching the first of three new hydraulic crawler dozers later this year, and has ambitious growth plans funded by parent company LiuGong, the Chinese construction equipment manufacturing giant. Guy Woodford reports
Dressta’s trio of new hydraulic crawler dozers represent exciting additions to the dozer market and are the first results of parent company LiuGong’s significant R&D investment in the Polish firm, which it bought in 2012.

The panel of experts from Trimble and Dynapac discussed where the construction industry is on the path to autonomy at present, where it is heading, and Trimble’s overall corporate vision for the future. Trimble’s philosophy is that machine autonomy is about more than just controlling the machine. To move the industry forward, autonomy solutions must also turn real-time data into real-time information to optimise and coordinate the jobsite of the future according to Trimble. Providing full access to that data presents a challenge, but can be achieved.
Trimble is expanding the capabilities of its EarthWorks machine control technologies. The firm introduced the first EarthWorks package for use with excavators in 2017 and is now offering a similar system using many of the same components for the dozer market. According to Martin Wagener, worldwide product implementation manager for Trimble explained: “There are the same sensors for the dozer as on the excavator." The compact and rugged inertial motion sensors (IMUs) are mounted on the dozer and measure
Caterpillar’s hybrid excavator represents evolutionary rather than revolutionary technology - Mike Woof reports
One of the key things to understand about Caterpillar’s hybrid excavator is that its fuel savings come not from a single technology, but from a range of features that have been integrated together. The sophisticated engine works hand in hand with the advanced hydraulics, with electronics governing the whole operation and optimising efficiency. And while none of these technologies is new in it
