Cat's new system is in command. Once upon a time you would have been laughed at for saying you could operate a dozer on a construction site 1,700 miles away - but not anymore, say Caterpillar.
Trimble is working on innovative technologies that could revolutionise the construction and aggregates production sectors.
Perhaps the most eye-catching of all of these is for the autonomous compactor and dozer system Trimble is in the process of developing.
Scott Crozier is general manager of Trimble’s general construction division. He said that while this autonomous machine technology is not yet ready for the market, “It may not be as far away as expected.”
Cat says an Eco-mode facility on its new CB24B and CB34B compactors, being launched at bauma, combines increased engine power availability with lower fuel usage. The CB24B and CB34B meet the European Union (EU) Stage IV/United States (U.S.) EPA Tier 4 Final emission standards. Versions of the C1.5 engine in the CB24B and the C2.2 engine in the CB34B are also available for customers in EU Stage IIIA and US EPA Tier 4 Interim emission standard markets.

Cat’s new 302.4D mini excavator is one of four mini excavator models being introduced by the company at bauma. Like fellow D Series models the 301.7D and 302.2D, the 302.4D is said to be a powerful and versatile machine that works comfortably in confined spaces. With model configurations said to closely reflect their operating weights of 1.6-2.5tonnes, the new D Series machines are said by Cat to feature powerful hydraulics, a spacious operator environment and excellent service access.
