Strong demand for compact machines is being seen. Data from Veronafiere’s SaMoTer Outlook in collaboration with Prometeia and with the information input of equipment manufacturing association Unacea has shown the growth in the market for small machines. Mini excavators and small wheeled loaders weighing up to 6tonnes have seen a particular growth in sales. These two types of machines accounted for 15% of global sales for Italian manufacturers in 2010, but accounted for 24% in 2015.

Ammann’s new AVA 250 machine is its first add-on compactor specifically designed for mini-excavators. Described by the Swiss firm as an efficient add-on compactor for use on mini-excavators weighing at least 2tonnes, the AVA 250 can also be used on backhoe loaders. A built-in twin-shaft exciter is said by Ammann to give the AVA 250 maximum directed compaction energy. With a working weight of 180kg and a centrifugal force of 20kN, the AVA 250 is said to prevent any vibration transfer to the loader’s boom.
